</div><div style="text-align: center;">Last week (9th November- 12th November) I was being a typical tourist traipsing through Paris and jumping on the metro snapping photos of everything vaguely french. As we were walking around we noticed how often people would look at us with a funny look and its because of the way we dressed we stuck out like a sore thumb in Paris. Parisians seem to stick to the dark colours of blacks greys, charcoal, navy blue and the odd cream/ nude garment every now and then. Us fashion students were in bright red, light blue denim, printed colourful cardigans, fur trimmed jackets, coloured leggings/ jeggings and a oversized tee teamed with toms, converse, dollies, uggs or heels also an array of different bags and scarfs. It probably didn't help that we were louder then the locals and attempted to speak french at every occasion.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">By taking one look at us it was obvious we weren't local to paris or even france !!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Apart from the funny looks of most people we found the french quite helpful as most people would stop to help us if we were lost or didn't understand something. especially one woman that told us the best way to view the Eiffel tower and by the image above I think you'll agree she was helpful.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Oh and by the way I did climb right to the top if the tower and OMG the view was amazing you can see nearly the whole of paris from up there, and for only like 10euros you can't complain!!apart from the Eiffel tower i also visited the Notre Dame and climbed to the top of one of its towers, snapped a pic of the Arch de triumph, walked through the palace fountains, visited the Louve, scared Sarah in the catacombs and dragged myself up a hill to see the casre-clure then sang on its steps with a local busker who called us the spice girls.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Would have been nice to have longer in paris but I did everything that I wanted to and more but we had to rush slightly and I know we felt pain when we got home on the saturday ... I just threw myself on the sofa and slept !!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Wish I had taken a step-o-meter to count how much I walked I know that walking up to the Notre Dame tower I walked up 400 steps just in an hour !! just imagine how many I walked in the days there...!!! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">(excuse my french spelling Im not the best at spelling in english hehe )</div>Alexandra Conwayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09743974817968253949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6016707229367998558.post-44180422160397420982011-11-01T14:54:00.001-07:002011-11-01T14:54:20.235-07:00on sunday my friend introduced me to a site that is all about people posting up there inspirations and fave images to share with people. </div><div style="text-align: center;">This is my latest freelance design and manufacture garment. My client wanted something that she could wear after her hand-fasting celebration. As her celebration was to take place out doors she wanted something that would keep her warm yet not to hot if the sun decided to show its face. As the client is Pagan she wanted something to represent her beliefs and ways, I didn't really know anything about pagan dress so i went away and researched traditional pagan hand-fasting dresses before designing anything, once i had an idea i took a selection of designs for the client to chose from. when she decided on which design she wanted we looked at colours and fabrics along with trims and details. To make sure the dress fitted her fully i manufactured a quick toile that she loved so i gave it to her for free as it didn't cost me anything more then a fiver. It took me a week to manufacture the dress and cape. as you can see the client was pleased with what she got :D </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">let me know if you know anyone or want anything designed or manufactured and ill see what i can do between training and uni work.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

All the garments are on off pieces designed and manufactured by Sally Victoria Ellis. I have had the chance to work for SVE helping out backstage at one of her many glamourous fashion shows. Her work is elegant with a sharp modern edge. each collection brings a different flow and seance of personality and individualism with it. much of her work is bold and turns heads, turning them for the right reasons. for A/W2011 she has used lace merged with leather and sequins to create an edgy yet elegant evening wear collection.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">It is very rare to fine me with out some sort of knit, mainly small soft night, i know summer isn't over yet but i've already started scrolling through internet fashion sited and window shopping for my winter wardrobe and i've been on the hunt for large chunky knits to keep me all cosy and warm during those cold windy winter days. I'm normally attracted to nude and earthy colours like creams, blacks, greys, dusty blues and greens when looking for clothes, but winter is such a shaded time of year anyway i was thinking of inserting a blast of colour into my wardrobe with some bold coloured knits. ill keep you informed on what i find. </div>Alexandra Conwayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09743974817968253949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6016707229367998558.post-7511025035288545802011-08-14T06:05:00.000-07:002011-08-14T06:05:01.790-07:00mystery man.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://wzeu.search-results.com/r?t=a&d=apn&s=zuk&c=p&app=aoth&ti=1&ai=30752&l=dis&o=14899&sv=0a652925&ip=5c1dc2ae&cu.wz=0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fi.dailymail.co.uk%2Fi%2Fpix%2F2011%2F08%2F06%2Farticle-2023115-0081FEFE00000578-627_306x445.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" naa="true" src="http://wzeu.search-results.com/r?t=a&d=apn&s=zuk&c=p&app=aoth&ti=1&ai=30752&l=dis&o=14899&sv=0a652925&ip=5c1dc2ae&cu.wz=0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fi.dailymail.co.uk%2Fi%2Fpix%2F2011%2F08%2F06%2Farticle-2023115-0081FEFE00000578-627_306x445.jpg" width="220" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://wzeu.search-results.com/r?t=a&d=apn&s=zuk&c=p&app=aoth&ti=1&ai=30752&l=dis&o=14899&sv=0a65292a&ip=5c1dc2ae&cu.wz=0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.smidigt.se%2Fwp-content%2Fbanksy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" naa="true" src="http://wzeu.search-results.com/r?t=a&d=apn&s=zuk&c=p&app=aoth&ti=1&ai=30752&l=dis&o=14899&sv=0a65292a&ip=5c1dc2ae&cu.wz=0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.smidigt.se%2Fwp-content%2Fbanksy.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">images :daily mail.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I was sat watching Bankys "exit through thr gift shop" last night and was hit by how mysterious Bankys actually is.I use him as inspiration sometimes as his work always has a twist or som sort of contraversy that coms along with it. Yet no one know his name and if they do they are in his small circle of trusted friends that they would never spill the beans on who he really is.Through-out the whole documentory Bankys face was pixelate or he was filmed from behind with his hood up and his voice was altered to keep his identity a mystery from the rest of the world. The olny thing i could find out is that he is married as he wears a wedding ring on his finger... But thats it.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> I don undrstand how he would want to keep his identity such a secret from the world. as he is so famous in the world of graffiti street art. Wouldn't you think he would want some recogision for what he has achieved with in his life? He could so easily walk past me and you,and we wouldn't even look twice at him. I can understand that what he is doing is some what on the edge of being illegal but many others perform illegal acts daily and their nams are known throughout the globe.I dont think I could keep my identity such a mystery I would slip up somewere, but he hasn't!! he is in total control of what he does and who is with him, that he knows he will only let his identity be known when he wants it to be known.</div>Alexandra Conwayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09743974817968253949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6016707229367998558.post-28676771324436569712011-08-06T14:36:00.000-07:002011-08-06T14:36:48.709-07:00zombie loving.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">OMG new love in my fashion life... comes by the name of Rick Genest. He was through feet first into his new modelling career because of his eye catching tattoos. if it wasn't for the creative director or Mugler and fashion director of Lady Gaga Nicola Formichetti finding him on Facebook of all places he would just be a normal tattooed guy.If he didn't turn him self into the zombie boy of which we now know him would he seem as sexy to us, i think not. If i tell you the truth its because of his body full of tattoos (I'm attracted to tattoos what can i say.) and his truly male sulky attitude in his photo shoots for Mugler that makes him my new fashion/model crush!! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">I was doing some research towards my summer brief for uni and i was looking at how birds have inspired fashion trends on the catwalk. Some are quite obvious where the inspiration was taken and are interpreted quite straight forward. My research was actually to do with angles and wings which then lead on to the anatomy of bird wings and how they move and how the feather lay on the wing themselves. Bird wings are normally used in depicting the angle wings. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I want to use this research as my inspiration for a garment or accessory to go towards my final major project in june 2012. </div>Alexandra Conwayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09743974817968253949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6016707229367998558.post-2487595979755348372011-07-30T07:12:00.000-07:002011-07-30T07:12:43.274-07:00Underwear Outerwear.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdid5TLXRA_DKLvibVrOFs5Og1Sj9NmDYUa8fSLHtB7p9Xs0NaFjK5AUzlH2eHyuF928PAQ_E7f61SENd5FOmZggEuwgeVW9H-7nK8qTGcPLstB8kzid_zvQ7BobOkIeAj_yjwvvww1T4/s1600/underwear-outerwear-08.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdid5TLXRA_DKLvibVrOFs5Og1Sj9NmDYUa8fSLHtB7p9Xs0NaFjK5AUzlH2eHyuF928PAQ_E7f61SENd5FOmZggEuwgeVW9H-7nK8qTGcPLstB8kzid_zvQ7BobOkIeAj_yjwvvww1T4/s640/underwear-outerwear-08.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">(Christian Dior)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"> You know that i already design and do Henna tattoos on my friends and family but recently I've been doing some side design work (cost free ATM) for people that want tattoos not henna but real ink ones. I originally thought it would be a good way to keep my drawing skills up over summer while I've not got much university design work to do and to get my name as a designer out there in the big wide world (well start small and hopefully word of mouth will do the rest !) so far I've drawn up 4 designs 1 was my own tattoo then some designs for close friends and family. The more i designs i do the easier they become,I never realised how much i like to do line drawing with basic shading and colour. My brother said i should think about getting a job in a tattoo parlour as a designer, but to be honest it's not a job i had ever thought about doing before but it sound like it would be fun. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Holiday fashion use to be all about bringing out the bikini and finding the smallest short possible, but is it any different to the festival fashion ? Festival fashion the last couple of years seemed to be all about short shorts, bikini tops and oversized nearly transparent tees with the obvious wellie boots and knee high socks. but this year its hard to tell the difference from the knees up as festival fashion has finally clashed with the softness and slight sophistication of holiday fashion the only difference... Wellies!!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Well how happy was i when i found out that Valentino's Whole Spring/Summer 2011 couture show was manly a wash of pale pink and dusty pink sheer garments. No matter how much your a lover or hater of delicate sheer, lace flowers and bows you cant take away how much craftsmanship and time has been put into this collection. I know first hand how hard it is to work with sheer very light weighted fabrics, so much that i gave up defeated by the fabric. So hats off to the team behind Pier Paolo Piccioll and Maria Grazia Chiurl at Valentino who actually have to make the garments.</div><div style="text-align: center;">"If fashion is about today, then today it's time to go back to elegance "Pier Paolo Piccioll</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm with you on that one Piccioll,. Where has the elegance gone nowadays? As most new and up-and-coming designers go to an extreme (me included) with everything getting bigger and more outlandish just to be noticed and recognised. why not take it back to the basics with a touch of sheer elegance. I will take my own advice here and see if i can include some sheer elegance in my final collection of my second year at uni. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Longshaw's work is whimsical and fun with a sporty twist to it that i have fallen in love with. If i could afford to buy one of his garments i would jump at the chance. His spring summer collection 2011 gives off an aura of a fun loving, sporty young women that has a whimsical, fairy tale sophistication. The colour pallet of pastel blues, purples and pinks are soft and easy on the eye, along with the intricate detailing, patterns, accessories and frills that draw you eye in for close examination, You know you wont be let down by his work.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">David Longshaw, St Martins (BA hons), RCA (MA). After graduating in 2007 David received a flurry of press and nominations for International Awards. He secured a position at Alberta Ferretti even before his final graduate collection was shown. Although keen to launch his own label he felt it important to gain some international commercial experience and went on to work for Max Mara. In tandem he has pursued his natural talent for illustration which is where many of his designs find their beginnings.David won the BFC Elle Talent Launch Pad which has even further raised his profile and saw Helena Christensen wearing one of his creations in ELLE. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Another whimsical story is the inspiration behind David's SS11 collection: </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">It's summer and a group of hoodies, bored and with nothing in particular to do, have broken into a stately home. With good intentions of petty vandalism and theft, they are distracted by the period costumes on display. They start to dress up and the fun begins.... (his own words)</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">(Sorry its late it took an age to the images to upload but there on now so here i go .) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I took these pics of peoples outfits in 2010 whilst in London with college, as part of the brief we had to capture street fashion. I thought I had lost them but was sorting out some files on my laptop and found them again, (yay!) it made me think about my last post and trying to find the true British style, well I think I found the answer... there isn't ONE true British style, there are MANY and each style is as individual and divers as the wearer. I have grown up with the message of standing out from the crowd is no bad thing, and if I want my work (as a fashion designer) and me to get noticed then I need to be individual and slightly different to be remembered. However if you look back in history to the late Victorian ear then everyone dressed the same in a typical "English style" of the 3 piece suit for men and a lovely expensive detailed day-dress for the women, It was like a uniform. It was unheard of for the men to customise there suits and the women to shorten their dresses. This style of dress only occurred in England. So theres the answer... there use to be a typical British style but we as a nation are so multicultural now that the british style is what the wearer feels it is. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">( On some of the photos some heads have been cut off, this is purposely done as they didn't want there faces in my sketchbook at the time. I know I'm not a great photographer but I'm not that bad!! hehe )</div>Alexandra Conwayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09743974817968253949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6016707229367998558.post-18530305558446468002011-07-06T08:35:00.000-07:002011-07-06T08:35:05.281-07:00influenced??<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-9LLBbChjPj1EXsck0AMmQ-GEZu4XI0UlDTO0tit-9uuONN1uQ34PbfwrzpNTHG85jkiS9sHRpoTCnmjCJqqzKGRb4Qgei_5h39O8GVqRUPilmiRInJYge8ZCzcwBrZxIHRhcQa13q5E/s1600/IMG_1525.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-9LLBbChjPj1EXsck0AMmQ-GEZu4XI0UlDTO0tit-9uuONN1uQ34PbfwrzpNTHG85jkiS9sHRpoTCnmjCJqqzKGRb4Qgei_5h39O8GVqRUPilmiRInJYge8ZCzcwBrZxIHRhcQa13q5E/s400/IMG_1525.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">I just finished my latest henna tattoo on my hand and it got me thinking about how the clothes and accessories in my wardrobe (and yours) are influenced or have taken inspiration from another culture with out us even knowing. Looking around my room i have some bangles that could pass for indian but i got them from Boots of all places. some scarfs on my door could have been inspired by Egyptian silks. In my wardrobe some printed tees ,american?. The list can go on and on and on. yet i can't say many of other cultures, say for instance Indian clothing is influenced by the British culture it just doesn't happen or if it does its hard to tell. But what exactly is the true british culture? its not so obvious is it , I mean i'm british through and through yet don't truly know what it is, so how can any other culture take inspiration from something we don't even know ourselves. ill post when i find the true british culture of the 21st century.</div>Alexandra Conwayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09743974817968253949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6016707229367998558.post-55098792979689157592011-07-05T10:04:00.000-07:002011-07-05T10:06:46.236-07:00<div style="text-align: center;">I cant take credit for the images of my garments as they were taken by my boyfriend Greg Dunbavand a student photographer.
